Derek Smith, founder of Skate for the Troops, cruises down Pacific Coast Highway in Torrey Pines, Calif., Nov. 13. Smith, a former motor transport operator for the Marine Corps, organized Skate for the Troops last year to raise money for The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. Nearly 50 participants boarded from Oceanside, Calif., to Torrey Pines State Beach, 25 miles.
